Gates Money and Common Core– Part V

And it continues….

This post is the fifth in a series on Bill Gates’ funding of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). As of September 22, 2013, Gates has spent $173.5 million expressly for CCSS according to the Gates grants search engine.

The first post includes CCSS background and Gates funding for key players at the CCSS planning table, including the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), and also both teachers unions, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA).

In my second installment, I examine Gates CCSS funding of organizations that influence state departments of education and school districts.

The third involves Gates CCSS funding to state departments of education and school districts.

The fourth post documents Gates CCSS funding to universities. In this fifth post, I examine Gates CCSS funding to foundations and institutes.

Dr. Megan Koschnick presents on the Developmentally Inappropriate Common Core–Video Released

Stop Common Core in Washington State

The official video has been released and we have posted it below.  This release has had the visual presentation edited to include slides that were shown during the presentation.

This video is a must watch.  Watch it yourself and share it widely.  This video needs to be viewed by every school administrator, school board member, legislator, teacher, and parent.  Make the time to watch this—it will be well worth it.  It will help you understand why young children may be coming home from school stressed and bewildered instead of thrilled and overjoyed.

Truth in American Education has a great write up about the presentation called Early Childhood Standards of Common Core are Developmentally Inappropriate.

Child clinical psychologist, Dr. Megan Koschnick, presents on how the Common Core Standards are developmentally inappropriate for young students at a conference held at Notre Dame. The event was sponsored by American Principles Project.

There is always next year…

So, I am out of the running for “Mother of the Year” this year. My son came home from school the other day and informed me that I forgot to pack a drink in his lunch box. Oh man, did I feel bad…especially when I remembered that I packed a peanut butter sandwich that day! Poor thing!

Of course, I could claim I was just toughening him up a little bit.

For District Leaders Considering Adopting the New Orleans “Miracle” Model

The RSD is the model Louisiana used in its RTTT application. This is what they want for all of Louisiana.

New Orleans’ Recovery School District (RSD) is being promoted nationwide as a model of corporate reform “turnaround.”  Thus, numerous legislatures, superintendents and school boards across the country are facing the question of whether or not to emulate RSD.

In this post, I address school officials who are tempted to believe and adopt the RSD “miracle.”  RSD success is a lie.  I have written extensively on the RSD façade. All of my posts are well documented; I am a trained researcher, and I know the value of supporting my assertions with evidence. I realize that elected and appointed officials also need documentation to support critical education decisions.  Read my work. You will be well informed.

As for the state-run schools in New Orleans: There is no miracle. The show is being staged.

Video: Maryland Dad Arrested For Persistent Questioning of Common Core

Again, I would like to thank the St. Tammany Parish School Board for really listening to parents’ concerns and for fighting with us.

I also want to reiterate that parents and teachers NEED to inform themselves about what is going in our education system. We have to stand up and be heard. We cannot just sit by and let this happen. It parallels everything else happening in our country. Do we let them do it?

I will not! I will not be quiet. I will not take what you say at face value. I will not stop informing myself and making my own decisions based on that information. Because if I do, you will have total power over me. I will never let that happen. I am not yours to control.

Maryland Dad Robert Small, the Rosa Parks of 2013.

Maryland Dad, Robert Small, was forcibly removed from a meeting last night, when he stood to ask questions about Common Core that were not being answered in the preferred written format.

The Baltimore Sun, The Blaze, and have all reported on this story.

In the video taken at last night’s event, you hear other parents in the audience pleading with the board to allow this man the dignity to ask his question. But the man was removed by security, and he was then arrested –for “disturbing a school operation” and reportedly for also assaulting an officer. The reports say Small will face jail time and/or hefty fines.

Fines for disturbing a school operation? This was an informational meeting for parents, where information was clearly not being honorably and fully disclosed.

Robert Small refused to be told that he…
